Course Progress

We are into the second week of the semester – how are your online courses going?

By now you should have introduced yourself, participated in a discussion, and/or submitted an assignment.

Hopefully you are growing comfortable navigating your online course. If not, here are some steps you can take:

  1. Print out your syllabus, assignment list, and any “Start Here” or “How this course works” information.  (Stop by a campus computer lab and use our printers & ink.) These documents are your course roadmaps and are invaluable resources – if you lose power or have computer problems at home you can still do your course readings if you know what is assigned.
  2. Communicate with your course instructor. If you are unsure about what is expected of you, speak up! Chances are you are not the only one in your course having issues. An email to the instructor through your course email or Outlook can make all the difference.
  3. Having trouble keeping your usernames and passwords straight? It can be confusing to remember which one to use where. Network id = GCC computer & library access; GenESIS id = GenESIS & My Courses (Blackboard); Outlook email address = GenESIS id @ my. genesee.edu –> you can review all this in the Technical Orientation Webinar video linked on the right under “Pages.”
  4. Inside GenESIS under “My Courses” there are “Student Tutorials” – these are great tools to show you how to perform specific operations in Blackboard. Check them out.
  5. The HelpDesk is available 24/7 if you have technical trouble or need your password reset. Call them: 1.866.614.5004  They’re nice folks but they don’t know who you are so please have your student number (800#) ready when you call.
  6. Email “online@genesee.edu” if none of the above are helping you resolve your issues.

Here’s to a great semester! :)
